This year finishing early and chompin at the bit with the meat of the rut coming up I decided there was no better time. I had spoke with my good friend in Nebraska earlier in the summer and wondered what the chances were on heading down there. He said let him know when... I was hoping Scott was going to go along to video but he had work obligations that kept him here so I packed up and headed west. I arrived and met my buddy and we talked about where to go and he picked out a good funnel and I sat there the afternoon. Not much was going on in that spot so that night I decided to hunt a piece that we turkey hunt and I had made a couple mental notes to myself that if I ever came down on a deer hunt these looked like classic spots.

I slept in and headed out in the morning light so I could see what where I was going and check some crossings and trails that I had remembered. I stepped out of the truck and immediately spotted a good track.

I followed it to the crossing that was just east of where I wanted to hunt. I hunted a long ridge that had a nice saddle that led to the creek. It was perfect.

I poked around and found a tree put up my stand and then ran a drag back to the crossing. Finally in the tree at 8:30. Not for sure what the wind was suppose to do. I was keeping my fingers crossed that it would continue from the Northeast.

Although I liked this spot, it wasn't where I originally was going to set up. I wanted to be about a quarter mile to the west so I kept pondering when I would get down and move over there. I rattled a little and sat down to take a break and decide how I was ever going to get a shot off if something were to come in. I am really considering moving now as it approaches 9:30 but decided to give it till 1 pm then relocate for the afternoon. Just then I heard what finally sounded like a deer coming up the ridge. Buck, nice buck, shooter, I swung and grabbed my bow and prepared for a shot as I had a slight window on the trail he was walking on. Sure enough he veered off and I had no shot. He was standing at 30 yards and I was going bananas because I knew there was no shot if he continued on the same trail. I grabbed my grunt tube and blew it into my coat and he snapped his head up and looked. I grunted again, he still stood there like a statue. Ffftt, Ffffft, fffffffffff, that was all he needed here he came on a string, still no shot he was now at 20, I am kicking myself for not trimming a few lanes now. He started to walk away now and I let him take a few more steps and again Ffftt, Ffffft, fffffffffff, this time he came to 10 yards and stood behind a big oak then all I saw was his right part of his face and an eyeball looking right at me.

As I was preparing for him to step around the tree he must have seen me shaking like a leaf as he move directly away with no shot presented. I figured that was it and he was gone however I wasn't going to just let him walk. I snort weezed at him again and he spun and just stood there at 40 yard for about 3 or 4 minutes which feels like an hour in a tree, then I grabbed in my backpack and pulled out the can call, he liked that as well, I still had his attention. He stood rock still for a while longer but decided he had enough. I let him get just out of site and snort weezed and crashed the horns together as loud as I could. That was all it took, before I could set them down on my seat he had made it back and was now standing about 5 yards from the base of my tree! I grabbed my bow and couldn't believe the movement I was getting away with and he walked to the fence where he thought the fight may be taking place and just stood there looking.

20 yards slightly quarting too I let er eat. He jumped into the fence, flipped over into the field ran a semi circle and jumped the fence on the other side and then started to get the wobbles and as his rack waved good bye and he finally fell over I sat in disbelief of what just had happened. I called my buddy and I think he thought I was kidding him but told him there was a good one on the ground. Then the texts started to fly and I was one happy camper. It was 10 am and there was a whopper of a husker buck laying 70 yards away!

Needless to say I am stoked about this Husker 8... Unfortunately this one did not get on video.

His main beams are 27 and 28 his g2 on the right side is 12 inches as well as the g3 on the left side. I haven't finished scoring him yet but he will look great on the wall! My wife is thrilled she will have 2 heads to hang this year...

Matt Ellison's Big Ditch Buck

Wind...
Where do you hunt when it is windy... Answer... In a ditch... A Big Ditch...

With the closing of tornado season the weather people have nothing better to talk about than the wind. They strike fear into people that the wind will huff and puff... well you get the idea. It worked for Scott and I this morning. Not wanting to head out into the tree stand with the wind we chose to hit a pond and hunt some waterfowl. Shot more than we expected but one thing we noticed is the wind wasn't really that bad. Cleaned the birds and headed home for shower and nap for me. Meet at Scott's house at 2:30 pm. Kicked tires and finally decided to go to the Big Ditch... Rolled in threw up the stands, myself in one tree and Scott in another and were set to hunt at 3:14 pm. I no more got settled and saw a doe feeding towards me and notified Scott with hand signals that would make an offensive coordinator blush that there was a doe (which ended up being a spike) and to pay attention. About ten minutes later a small eight point drops down into the Big Ditch followed by a shooter. I never hesitated when he strolled down the hill, the heart beat quickened the breathing started and all he need to to was to come my way. I lost sight of him for a while and the wind died a little so I grunted and he came into view on a string. A short time later he was standing at 30 yards, head down and I let er eat. He turned as I shot and I hit him what I thought was way back. I was unsure of the shot and kind of disappointed in myself when I looked back and Scott was just about ready to jump out of his stand giving me hand signals ( that would make an offensive coordinator blush) that he was down. Time... 3:34 pm. Awesome, awesome hunt... All on video that turned out fantastic, thanks buddy! I decided to go check a couple of my Predator trailcams and after checking the first one, moose had been right there 20 minutes earlier. He was in a 9 acre patch of some of the thickest stuff you can imagine. Figuring he would be in there till dark, I quickly returned to my truck, got ready, and headed in. I saw a half dozen does by 5:30 and they were all acting very nervous, I'm sure he had been bumping them around all day. At 5:45, moose came in browsing through the thicket. After filming him for 3 minutes he finally moved through a small opening at 18 yards. Although the shot looked good, the sign on my arrow didn't. I backed out and took up the trail in the morning, he had only gone about 60 yards.

He has 19 scorable points with his longest tine busted off. My best guess is the tine was close to 14" long. After a very quick scoring job, we came up with about 190

Adam Hays
Producer - Whitetail Addictions
adamhays@sbcglobal.net
614-496-2542

Ashley and Cody D'Acquisto Score in Illinois

Ashley and Cody D'Acquisto recently killed these two great bucks
while bowhunting in Illinois. Early September I hunted 3 nights in the UP and saw a single, small black bear. I then drove through the night to get to my spot in Wisconsin for the bow opener. I had a close call with a 160” 10 point on opening evening, but some sudden gusts of winds made a doe freak out a bit and the buck didn’t stick around. My partners have each seen some nice bucks there too, so we’re excited about this fall’s opportunities. I hunted there the following weekend but saw nothing good.

Last weekend I was in the UP again chasing bears, but they got the best of me again. After four evening hunts, I saw zero...zilch. One bait went cold. The others were getting hit late at night. I’ll be heading up one more time this next weekend for a final crack at those bears...

Back on the deer front, here in Michigan, I missed a golden opportunity on a nice buck this past week (Tuesday) because of work! I saw a nice 8 point, about a 125-130" 3.5 year old, which is a nice buck around my parts of Michigan here, on my way to work. I glassed him for several minutes and knew right where he was headed to bed. I just KNEW he'd be back out in the evening in a certain spot I've regularly seen them return to in the evening. But as work and luck would have it, I got caught up in a meeting until 6:30pm and wasn't able to scoot out early, hang a stand and kill this buck. Sure enough, when I passed by the area at 7pm, there he was, feeding contently right where I would have been setup....so it goes.... I setup for a morning sit at midnight that night. Overnight rains helped the setup but I don't think helped the buck stay on a pattern. I saw a small buck in the morning was all.

Now it's Saturday night and I just returned from a scouting mission. I saw that buck again... I'll be setting up on him tomorrow evening....we'll see how it goes this time! More to come.

Store Upgrade Complete

Thanks for your patience everyone. Turns out, he had been pretty conservative in his own scoring! His "Tuning Fork" buck from 2006 grosses 201" (and change). His "Flyer Buck" from 2007 has officially netted 202 (and change) non-typical. Both of these hunts were self-filmed by Andrae. You can see his 2006 buck on Volume 2 of our Whitetail Addictions DVDs. His 2007 buck will be featured in an episode this summer when the new shows start airing.

Andrae D'Acquisto Kills Another Booner by Bow...Then Kills a 172!

Thursday morning, November 1st, The Lone Wolf himself, Andrae D'Acquisto
came up big and scored his 4th net Boone & Crockett whitetail by bow and
arrow. This giant officially nets 202" (and some change) Boone & Crockett. Andrae
called this buck the "Flyer" buck due to its "flyer" points off its G2's.

Just a few days later, Andrae dropped another beautiful buck with his bow... a mainframe 10 point with a broken left G4.

Andrae has multiple trail camera photos of these bucks and he captured
both hunts on film himself, so watch for more of these stories to
come on future episodes of Lone Wolf's Whitetail Addictions.

Adam Hays Kills His 3rd Buck Grossing Over 200 Inches!

Official Score:

• 208 3/8" gross non-typical

• 200 6/8" net non-typical

• 196 3/8" gross typical

• 176 6/8" net typical

Ohio: On the evening of October 24, 2006, Adam Hays continued the streak of good fortune for the Whitetail Addicts out there when he killed this giant Boone & Crockett whitetail buck with his bow. This is the same buck we featured in our first episode of Whitetail Addictions when Danny Gibson, from Tennessee, missed him during a late season bowhunt which Adam filmed for him in January 2006. Adam had high hopes of killing this buck this fall, and when he confirmed his presence with a sighting in early October, this buck became the only thing that would feed his addiction this year in Ohio.

This buck makes Boone & Crockett both as a typical and non-typical. It officially scores 208 3/8" gross non-typical, and it nets 200 6/8" non-typical. The official typical score is 196 3/8" gross, and it nets 176 6/8". Adam captured the entire hunt on video himself. This is Adam's 3rd bowkill grossing over 200 inches and it is likely the largest grossing typical killed on video in 2006 and the 2nd largest all-time.

Adam is shooting a new prototype bow designed by Andrae D'Acquisto, called the Lobo™. It's just the second deer killed with this bow. Have a look at the first deer killed with the Lobo™. Look for more of his story on a future episode of Lone Wolf's Whitetail Addictions™ and here on our website. Congratulations Adam!
